To check the Version of the app on Mac, there are three different ways: via Terminal, using the App settings, and at least via Mac System Report. Let’s look at each method one by one.
Method #1 Using Spacebar
Another handy way to check the version of an application is by using the Spacebar. To know how, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Click on the Finder Icon from the Mac Dock.
Step 2: Select Applications from the left pane.
Step 3: Click on the application icon for which you want to check the version and press the Spacebar.
Method #2. Using Mac Finder
Step 1: Press Command + Space to access Spotlight search. Enter Finder and click on it to open. Alternatively, click on Finder from Mac Dock.
Step 2: After this, choose Applications from the left pane.
Step 3: Right-click on the Finder Column Bar and select Version from the pop-up menu. As soon as you do so, you’ll the Version of each application next to it.

Method #3. Using App Settings
if I assume that the app is accessible on your Mac, then this is the easiest way to check the current app version on your Mac.
Step 1: Access the app which you want to check the Version. For instance, Google Chrome.
Step 2: After this, Select Chrome from the Mac menu bar.
Step 3: From the prompted menu, select About Google Chrome. On the next screen, you’ll see the Version of the app you installed on your Mac.

Method #4. Via Mac System Report
The app is installed on your Mac, but you won’t be able to access or open it on your Mac because of restrictions or Crashing issues. You want to check the app version for all installed apps on your Mac. This method is helpful to you.
Step 1: Click on the Apple Menu located at the top left corner of the Mac screen. Choose About This Mac from the prompted menu.
Step 2: In the next window, select More Info… Button.
Step 3: Scroll to last and Select the System Report Button…
Step 4: Next, click on the Applications from the left pane in the Software menu. As soon as you do so, you’ll see the Application name and its Version on the right side.
Method #5. Using Mac Terminal
Do you know the app’s name? Enter the correct app in the terminal command below and Hit the return.
- Press Command + Space to access the Spotlight Search.
- Enter Terminal in it and click on it to open.
- Within the Terminal, enter the command:
defaults read /Applications/Appname.app/Contents/Info.plist
- Press the Return Button, and as soon as you show, you’ll see the App Verison mentioned in the Terminal screen.
