1: Remove Magnetic Accessories

Is your iPhone, iPad covered with any sort of magnetic accessory? Because the Magnetic Accessories might create interference with the GarageBand app and won’t let it work properly. Therefore, when the GarageBand has stopped working, remove all the accessories for once and try using the app.

In another case, you can keep the iPhone and iPad away from any magnetic devices like home appliances. It might work for you.

2: Update System Software

Didn’t have Magnetic Accessories or already removed, but still GarageBand not working? Let’s try to update the System Software to the latest version. In some cases, outdated software could create glitches between programs and apps. It’s your best chance to update the firmware.

Update iOS:

3: Update GarageBand App

Update GarageBand in iOS:

  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. Tap on your profile icon on the top-right screen.
  3. Scroll down to the GarageBand and tap the Update button.

Update GarageBand in macOS:

  1. Open the Mac App Store.
  2. Click on Updates in the sidebar.
  3. Find the GarageBand and tap Update.

4: Force Quit GarageBand and Restart

Do you often restart the Mac, iPhone? Most of the time, when the smart devices are not rebooted periodically, they cause multiple errors like this. Let’s force quit the GarageBand and all other background running apps and restart the device.

In iOS device:

  • Bring the App Switcher for iPhone with the home button, double-press the home button, and without the home button, swipe from the middle bottom of the screen and swipe up all the apps to force close it.

In macOS:

  • Press Option+Command+Esc and select GarageBand App and then click Force Quit.

 Now Restart the device,

  • iOS: Open the Settings app > General > Shut Down. Now to turn off the device, drag the slider and let the device turn off.
  • Mac: Click on the Apple icon and select Shut-Down.

5: Reset GarageBand (Only Mac)

Since it’s not an Android phone, so resetting GarageBand in iPhone is not possible. However, in the Mac, it’s quite easy to reset the apps by using the Terminal Command. By this, all the settings of GarageBand will be reset to default, which you can, of course, change later.

  1. Go to Terminal App in Mac.
  2. Enter the following path: defaults delete com.apple.garageband10
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Besides, if you’ve updated the GarageBand, then try the following command,
  5. defaults delete com.apple.Garageband
  6. Once done, quit the Terminal App and launch GarageBand and see if it is working.
