Restoring process is same for Finder user on Mac because Apple officially revamped iTunes on macOS Catalina or later macOS. macOS Mojave and Earlier macOS and Windows PC user can use iTunes.

Why are we using DFU mode on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch?

  1. People are using DFU mode for the upgrade or downgrade your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch using the iOS/iPadOS firmware (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch). Series Software issues, Installation Error and Won’t turn on your iPhone, iPad.
  2. Remove Jailbreak from the Device or SIM Unlock, Then you need DFU mode
  3. In your iPhone you have a prior version of iOS installed, that you can use DFU mode.

How to Put iPhone in DFU mode – Steps, iPad, iPod touch?

macOS Catalina or Later MacOS user can use Finder on Mac. But old macOS Mojave and Older MacOS user can use iTunes for DFU restore. In the Same Way, Window user can use iTunes for restore in DFU mode.

iPhone DFU Mode [iPhone 11 iPhone XS/ XS Max/ iPhone XR – iPhone 8/ 8 Plus]

  1. Connect your iPhone to Finder/iTunes” on Mac/PC Using Original Apple lightning cable. unlock your iPhone to Access the new device on Mac or PC. Again check your iPhone/iPad show the popup that allows to “Trust

iPhone 11 (Pro, Max), iPhone Xs (Xs Max), iPhone XR, iPhone 8 (Plus)

  • Quickly Press and Release Volume up and Volume Down button one by one, After that Only Press and Hold down the Side/Power button on iPhone. Don’t Release Side/Power button, Wait for your iPhone see a black screen when you will see a Black screen iPhone, Then Quickly Press and Hold Volume Down button for 5 seconds. After that Only Press and Hold Volume Down button. Wait for Few seconds, See your Mac/PC screen, Finder/iTunes will say your iPhone is in Recovery mode, with the Restore button option in popup.

iPhone 7/7 Plus DFU Mode:

  • Press and Hold Volume down button and the side Sleep/power buttons together for up to 10 seconds.
  • After 10 seconds, Release only pressed power/sleep button, and continuously press the Volume down button until you will get the message on your Mac/windows’ Finder/iTunes window. and Your iPhone 7/7 Plus Screen completely black [No apple logo]
  • The message will appear on a screen like iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Now release the volume down button finally.
  • Use Restore option to install a new iOS version. if you see apple logo instead of black screen, repeat the same process with accuracy.

iPhone 6S (Plus), iPhone 6 (Plus)

  • Press and Hold side Sleep/Wake and the Home buttons together for up to 10 seconds.
  • After 10 seconds, Release only pressed Side power/sleep button, and continuously press the Home button until you will get the message on your Mac/windows’ Finder/iTunes window. and Your iPhone 6S/6S Plus Screen completely black [No apple logo]
  • The message will appear on a screen like iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Now release the Home button finally.
  • Use Restore option to install a new iOS version. if you see apple logo instead of black screen, repeat the same process with accuracy.

After doing above steps although, iOS device displaying iTunes logo, restore logo, or any other message, as result you are not in DFU mode, So repeat whole steps to Put iPhone in DFU mode again.

Click on Restore iPhone > Select the “Downloaded ipsw file” and Wait for Restore completely.

To Exit from Recovery mode: Hard Reboot your iPhone.


How Exit or comeback from DFU mode in iPhone, iPad and iPod touch?

For revert back and start the iOS device in normal mode process is too simple.

Step 1:

No Home button iPhones (iPhone 11 (Pro Max), iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 Plus, iPhone X Plus, iPhone XS/ XS Max, iPhone XR): Quickly Press and Release Volume up button and Volume down button and Only Press and Hold Side button on iPhone.

Home button iPhone (iPhone 5S/ iPhone 6/ 6 Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone 6S/6S Plus)Tap home button and Sleep/power button together while your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch connected to the iTunes.

Step 2: Unlock your iPhone with Passcode or Touch ID/Face ID.
