Is iOS 27 not showing up or not updating on your iPhone? You may see iOS 26.7 on the Software Update screen while the iOS 27 upgrade seems to be missing. In other cases, the iOS 27 download may get stuck, fail, or show an error during installation.
Don’t worry. There are several troubleshooting steps you can try to get iOS 27 downloaded and installed on your iPhone.
I’ve also attached a video tutorial that walks you through these troubleshooting steps. If you prefer following along visually, make sure to watch the video as well.
1. Scroll Down on the Software Update Screen
This is one of the first things you should check.
Open the Settings > General > Software Update
If iOS 26.7 appears at the top of the screen, don’t assume iOS 27 isn’t available. Scroll all the way down and look for the iOS 27 upgrade option.
If you see it, tap the option to upgrade to iOS 27 and follow the on-screen instructions.
2. Make Sure You Have Enough Free Storage
Not having enough storage is one of the most common reasons an iOS update won’t download or install.
Go to:
Settings > General > iPhone Storage
For a major update like iOS 27, I recommend having around 15 to 25 GB of free storage available if possible. The iPhone needs additional temporary space to download, prepare, and unpack the update.
If your storage is almost full, delete or offload apps you don’t use, remove downloaded videos, or move large photos and files somewhere else.
Once you’ve freed up enough space, restart your iPhone and check for the update again.
3. Check Your Wi-Fi Connection
A weak or unstable internet connection can cause iOS 27 to get stuck on downloading, preparing, or requesting the update.
Make sure your iPhone is connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network. You can also turn Wi-Fi off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
Then return to:
Settings > General > Software Update
Check whether iOS 27 starts downloading normally.
4. Reset Network Settings
If the Software Update page is blank, the download keeps failing, or iOS 27 remains stuck, resetting your network settings may help.
Go to:
Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Enter your iPhone passcode and confirm the reset.
Keep in mind that this resets saved Wi-Fi networks and related network settings, so you’ll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward.
Once connected, check for iOS 27 again.
5. Delete the iOS 27 Update and Download It Again
Sometimes an incomplete or corrupted update file can prevent iOS 27 from installing correctly.
Go to:
Settings > General > iPhone Storage
Scroll through the list and look for the downloaded iOS 27 update file.
Tap it and select Delete Update.
After deleting it, restart your iPhone. Then go back to:
Settings > General > Software Update
Download iOS 27 again.
6. Restart Your iPhone
A simple restart can fix temporary software or network glitches that prevent the update from appearing or downloading.
Restart your iPhone, reconnect it to Wi-Fi, and then check:
Settings > General > Software Update
If iOS 27 appears, try downloading it again.
7. Update iOS 27 Using a Mac or Windows PC
If your iPhone still won’t update over the air, try installing the update using a computer.
Connect your iPhone to your computer with a compatible USB cable.
On a Mac, open Finder and select your iPhone.
On a Windows PC, use the supported Apple device-management software available on your computer.
Select your iPhone and check for a software update. If iOS 27 is available, follow the instructions on the computer to download and install it.
Before updating, it’s a good idea to back up your important data.
iOS 27 Still Not Updating?
If none of these solutions work, make sure your iPhone supports iOS 27 and that Apple’s update servers are working normally.
Also, give the update another try later. Major iOS releases can generate heavy download traffic, especially shortly after an update becomes available.
