How to Enable/Disable High Power Mode on MacBook Pro

🗓️ August 21, 2023 By ✍️ Jaysukh patel

Being a MacBook Pro user, you would want to push the performance of your device beyond its limits. The all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max silicon chip allows you to use the new High Power Mode for intensive and sustained workloads. Apple says this mode optimizes your Mac’s performance to support better resource-intensive tasks, such as color grading 8K ProRes video.

This new High Power Mode is available in the macOS Monterey & Later. It works efficiently when users render larger files or do graphically intensive tasks that require an added performance boost. Once this mode is enabled, it will de-prioritize resource-hungry system processes to leverage the full performance capability of the ‌M1 Max processor to the task you need the boost for. This mode completely contrasts with the Low Power Mode, which reduces energy use to increase battery life.

This High Power Mode is available only in the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip and will not be accessible in any other variant. The following steps will guide you on enabling the High Power Mode in MacBook Pro.

Head to the “Energy Mode” option and choose the High Power mode in the selection box.

That is all you need to do to turn on the High Power Mode in the MacBook Pro. To see if the High Power Mode is on, click the Battery icon in the menu bar to view the battery status menu. After turning this mode on, your device might feel a bit hotter, but you don’t have to worry, as this mode also ramps up fan speeds to compensate for this excess heat.

Once this High-Performance Mode is turned on, your device will consume more battery than before, so you wouldn’t want this feature to run on your MacBook at all times. This mode helps handle heavy operations, but this mode will only heat your device and drain your battery quickly for regular use.

The following steps show you how to Disable the High Power Mode in MacBook Pro
