iTunes will take up to 15 to 30 minutes to download the latest iOS firmware on Mac or PC. Also, your iPhone X will exit from recovery mode itself.

Once you have download the Firmware iOS file (Check to download status at the top right corner of iTunes).

Now repeat above Step 2 and Step 3 to restore iOS to the latest firmware and remove forgotten passcode.

3 Restore iPhone X to factory settings in recovery mode

Once wipe all data and install new software, set up a new iPhone X/8/8 Plus and use the Backup option as you wish (iCloud Backup or iTunes Backup). Then, go to restore an old backup and get back all data with a new passcode.
